Andrea Houston

Andrea is a passionate fundraising and development professional with a background in journalism, professional communications, and politics.

Andrea is the first Managing Editor of Ricochet Media, a position which she has held since April 2022. She also developed the Queer Media course at Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Journalism, where she teaches.

At Queen’s Park, Andrea served as executive assistant to MPP Cheri DiNovo, Ontario’s first LGBTQ critic, where she worked on legislation to make the province safer and more accepting for queer and trans people, such as Bill 77, which banned medical conversion therapy for LGBTQ youth.

Andrea is a former Pride Toronto “Honoured Dyke,” two-time Inspire Award nominee for LGBT Person of the Year, and was recently named Role Model of the Year by the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity.

As a journalist, Andrea has covered a range of issues affecting LGBT people on local, provincial, national, and international levels. She has written for the Toronto Star, the Peterborough Examiner, The Globe and Mail, NOW Magazine, and Xtra, Canada’s gay and lesbian news.
